We’re back with Snowlandia 2019!

Leap on snowshoes, search for life under the snow, develop leadership skills and make outdoorsy friends. SaskOutdoors and Wildernook are teaming up again to offer winter experiences in a fresh way.

Snowlandia is designed for young women ages 10 & 11  who crave more outdoor time exploring and connecting with nature.  Snowlandia is an exciting opportunity for young women to challenge themselves outdoors during the winter break.

The Experience:   Each day will feature a different winter adventure in Holiday Park's Naturalized space and surrounding area (ski trails, South Saskatchewan Riverbank).  The morning and afternoon learning experiences will focus on practical outdoor skills such as staying warm and dry, building a small warming fire, preventative first aid, skiing and snowshoeing. Although we will begin and end each day bundled up outdoors, participants can expect to spend a couple of cozy low-key, down-time hours indoors around noon eating, reading, and drying out our mitts!

To recap, the snowlandia winter week experience features:

  • Snowshoeing

  • Nature hikes

  • Skating

  • Nordic skiing (classic)

  • Building with snow

  • Firebuilding

  • First Aid training

  • Team building challenges

  • Contemplative time in nature

We welcome curiosity and enthusiasm, but no previous experience is required in any of these areas. Also, specialized gear such as skis and snowshoes will be provided.

Times: We will meet each morning between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. , enjoy cozy indoor time together between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and wrap up between 4:00p.m - 4:15 p.m. each day.

Cost: The program cost of $265.00 ($66.00/day) includes learning materials, access to the specialized outdoor gear we will be using and mentorship from qualified outdoor educators. Participants must provide their own lunch, snacks and warm clothing.

Accessibility Cost: $100.00 ($25.00/day) Our partner organization, SaskOutdoors will subsidize the cost of three female 10 & 11 year old participants who identify as Indigenous, newcomers to Canada, or living in low income families. The goal of these three subsidized spots is to increase the accessibility of the program. Please note, SaskOutdoors would like participants making use of this support to follow up with a letter sharing about their Snowlandia experience.

Requirements: Participants need to have warm winter clothes such as snowpants, jacket, winter boots and long underwear/base layers to be comfortable outdoors. This is an active program and participants should be in good physical condition to enjoy themselves (e.g. able to comfortably run for 15 minutes and walk for 60 minutes).

Registration: Thank-you for your patience. We have now confirmed all the details with our partner organization and are ready to accept participants!

Registered participants will receive a detailed information package in late January/early February.

This program is unique because it is lead by experienced female outdoor education teachers who are experts in their fields. They each bring years of experience teaching outdoors.
